Authentication Header

The Authentication Header for IP datagrams is defined in the 2400 series of RFCs, all of which are associated with IPSec (IP Security). The AH is positioned between the IP header and the payload of the datagram and is used to maintain the integrity of the information. This is achieved through the use of an ICV (Integrity Check Value) which is calculated based on the transfer independent content of the IP datagram (the data that should not change during its transit). The AH does not provide data confidentiality.
