Extensible Authentication Protocol

EAP is an authentication protocol which provides an infrastructure that enables clients to authenticate with a central authentication server. EAP does not select a specific authentication mechanism at link control phase but rather postpones this until the authentication phase. This enables the authenticator to request more information before determining the specific authentication mechanism. Examples of authentication schemes supported by EAP are: MD5 Challenge, One Time Passwords, Generic Token Card etc.
