IP Telephony
The transmission of voice and fax phone calls over data networks utilizing IP (Internet Protocol). IP Telephony is the result of the transformation of the circuit switched telephone network (ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)) to a packet based network such as the Internet or an Intranet.
