MDT
Multicast Distribution Tree
In the context of VPN multicast, these are the multicast trees in the provider network that provide connectivity to all the PE servicing sites of a multicast-enabled VPN. Conceptually, the MDT creates the abstraction of a LAN to which all the PEs belonging to a particular VPN are attached. This property is very important for the C-instance PIM sessions between the PEs, which can consider each other as directly connected neighbours over this LAN.
