SPI
Security Parameters Index
The SPI (Security Parameters Index) is a pointer that references the session key and algorithm used to protect the data being transported. The index is defined during the SA (Security Association) and described in the ESP (Encapsulating Security Protocol) or AH (Authentication Header) extension to the IP header. This term is defined in RFC 2401.
