Unlicensed Network Controller

A Unlicensed Network Controller is found with a UMAN (Unlicensed Mobile Access Network). Its function is to connect the existing GSM and GPRS core network, through a broadband IP network, to the Access Point situated in the customer site. As such, it acts in a very similar way to a BSC (Base Station Controller) and PCU (Packet Control Unit) found within GSM and GPRS networks. However, the UNC supports a number of additional UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) specific protocols termed URLC (UMA Radio Link Control) and URR (UMA Radio Resource).
