Prerequisites:

None, although familiarity with IP networks and other wireless standards including 802.11 is useful.

Outline and Objectives:

WiMAX deployment has been erratic during 2007 and 2008, with several high-profile implementations started and then cancelled. Nonetheless, WiMAX remains a strong candidate for fixed (or mobile) operators wishing to deploy mobile broadband services to compete with traditional mobile data services. This course gives a rounded treatment of the key technologies, capabilities, standards and deployment of WiMAX, as well as a commercial view of likely deployments and services.

Who Should Attend:

This course is suitable for anyone wanting a concise treatment of the standards, technologies, services and likely deployment of WiMAX, and a comparison of WiMAX with the competing technologies and standards. Particularly suitable for engineers new to WiMAX, engineering managers, product managers, and operations staff needing a vendor-independent view of WiMAX.

Course Contents:

  • WiMAX Standards Evolution: 802.16x
  • WiMAX Network Architecture
  • WiMAX Protocols and Air Interface
  • Fixed and Mobile WiMAX Compared
  • WiMAX Deployment Plans
  • 802.16/WiMAX and 3GPP LTE Compared
